First manufactured by HUSS in 1978, the ‘Pirate’ is the largest trailer version of its type, with a swing height of 20 metres (66ft). Despite the large space requirements (23m x 13m), the ride can be racked on two 40ft trailers. A boat swing (of some sort) can be found in most major carnivals all over the world.
With its pendulum motion, Pirate gives riders a sensation of weightlessness. The boat is swung with two alternating 105Kw drives that make contact with the underside of the ship.
HUSS also manufactures a larger park version of the ride, known as the “Traum Schiff”, carrying a maximum capacity of 120 Adults, swinging to a height of 33 metres! (109ft) This version is rare, with around 3 units built.
There are currently 4 Pirate Ships in Australia, one of which is a trailer version.
