The Rok ‘n’ Rol originated in 1942, known as ‘The Herschell Looper’ originally by Allan Hershel Manufacturing Co. and then by Chance between 1970-76. The original models consisted of each tub having a pedal that could be pressed by the riders’ feet which engaged a clutch that caused the tub to flip continually. Later Chance models did not have this feature, with tub flipping decided by the operator.
I was unaware of any Rok ‘n’ Rolls in Australia until I stumbled upon this one set up in Currumbin (Queensland, Australia) in a small travelling Carnival. I was very impressed with the fantastic refurbishment, and newly made passenger tubs. Unfortunately the carnival was closed during weekdays, and I’ve yet to ride a Rok’n'Roll.
The ride racks up on a single trailer, and has a capacity of 32 adults. (4 per tub)
